Other breeds...

I have read several different blogs that have asked about other breeds you may own or be interested in. I love most different breeds, all for different reasons of course, though I wouldn't own most. Most people know I used to have GSD's and started in Schutzhund. I LOVE Shepherds but have a terrible time having another with all the health issues I ran into, but you never know... I like Sussex Spaniels and Clumbers, wanted one real bad back in middle school don't know if they would fit in with the Cardis though. Maybe a BC, tried it once though and didn't work out real well, but my living arrangements are better for one now.
Swedish Vallhunds I was really interested in them but ran into some really snotty breeders so have decided maybe not. Would've been fun to work them I think! French Bulldogs are very cute but the snorting/noise, I don't know about that. I have really wanted to meet a Hovawart in person. They sound like really fascinating dogs but I have never seen one in person, love the way they look though. The only other dog I was really close to getting, before Cardigans actually, was a Beauceron. Would probably own one now had there been anything available, since I've seen quite a few more. They are nice dogs and I would certainly be interested in the right one at another point in my life. Someday I will have either a token little dog or at least one large dog but for now its just the Cardis and I!

  1. I had to google Hovawart as that was a brand new breed to me. The blond ones look like large golden retrievers!

  2. I did too. Beautiful looking dogs. Cardis are hard to beat imo.

  4. Amy:

There are at least 2 Cardi people who also have/breed Vallhunds. I bet they wouldn't be snotty to you :)

  5. I know of someone in Europe who has a Hovawart as her guide dog. I guess it's a really cool dog. Don't recall what country she is from, but it's neat to read about him on the e-list I get that she participates on.

  8. I really like Beaucerons, and Dutch Shepherds. If I'm ever bale to get into SAR, or Schutzhund I'll be looking more at those. At this point though, I'll likely need a double knee, and right hip replacement before I'm 30 so that may not happen ;)

  9. Really a fun topic that brings out all kinds of opinions. I like to think about it but I did decide on Cardigans for a reason, they are here to stay!

  10. Oooo now I was looking into Beaucerons at one point before Cardis as well! To me they combined my first two breeds (GSDs & Dobermans) into one. What turned me away was that they are cropped. If they had natural upright ears and were docked, I would have made that jump.

I know what you mean about a token dog. I miss my token big dog.

  11. I hope not all Vallhund people are snotty. (vbg). I'm not sure who you ran into, but I can say that I know several very un-snotty Vallhund breeders, and one not too far from you who has SVs with lots of drive and herding instinct. If you are interested in knowing more about them, or seeing a large group locally, feel free to email me, I'm happy to put you in touch! I can guarantee that if you had a chance to visit, you would not have a snotty experience. :-)
