A Great Dog Died Today

Today I said goodbye to the greatest dog I've had the pleasure to be owned by.  Beli was my first Cardigan and was my right hand man; the only constant in a life full of changes.  We were always on the same page and we lead each other down great paths to wonderful adventures.  He was a joy to share the last 14 years with; always the comedian.  He loved being the center of everyone's attention but mostly mine.  He taught me many, oh so many lessons in life, herding and Cardigans.  He showed me the best a dog could be but also how bad young dogs can be:-))  Several years ago I did a blog post called Six words, I don't remember now what I put for him but how do you surmise 14 yrs of wonder with 6 words?  Beli- Strong, fighter, heart, brave, funny life.  He was strong until the very end, never backed down from a fight, had enough heart for many dogs (large and small) but also had my heart, went to battle even when it didn't look good for us, and had a great sense of humor.  I will never forget all the times we shared and I can only hope to be blessed with a dog who touches my life in a similar way again some day.  He changed the course of my life where would I be without having been owned by Beli?  Who knows but I don't even want to think about it.  I'm so happy and blessed to have been owned by such a dog even once in my life!  Goodbye my dear Beli I will love you always, until we meet again.

  1. Amy, I'm so lucky I was able to have some time to spend with Boop 1 on 1. I'm so lucky to have had my first sweet Beli boy (Coel) and to have the second (Tag) now. As my bond with Tag grows, I only hope to have what you and Beli had....it was a special relationship. Words cannot express how I felt when I received your text about Beli. All I could is cry....for the loss of such a wonderful little guy and for you for losing your best friend. I hope he's standing with Coel at the bridge. Tag, Libby and I want to express our love and sorrow and hope to help you in some small way through the healing process.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear about Beli. What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful Big (little)dog. He was so special and I am so glad I got to see him again last November. He held out as long as he could for you and it takes a lot of strength to let them go. It was the right thing to do.

  8. Oh, Amy. I am so terribly sorry. These little guys leave a very large hole in our hearts when they leave us. You had many wonderful years with Beli and I hope that you can be comforted by some of those memories. Peace with you and Godspeed to Beli.

  9. Amy, I am so sorry about your loss. All I can say is that the pain and loss will ease through your tears and through the support of your friends. I am still in awe of Beli's accomplishments! He was the breed's first DC and showed us all that it was possible. Thank you for being his partner as he led the way. I will keep you in my heart and prayers.

  12. Sad news, Amy, but such a long, rich life, and many pups to carry on! Thanks to Beli, Abby and you for Trixie! She and our old Elfie went on a road trip with us - camping in Maryland this week. Warmly, Sue
