Well I'm so heartbroken to say that the FOX is back. My Swede hen was sitting on a nest and now she is just gone, no sign, nothing. I am a little suprized that there are no feathers but he's done it before. I'm just sick... This is the new group of ducks too since the last 16 were all taken by the fox one by one. I have no problem killing him since he's made his life off of our poultry but you don't hardly ever see him and when you do, well we don't walk around our property with a rifle to kill the fox since he only comes 2-3x's per week. I just hate it!!! The trappers are too expensive and have no guarantee either. I'm just mad and needed to vent...
Sounds like you need a good terrier.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't know the Cardis have chased him off several times but I don't really want any of my dogs to fight him! Plus I think the terriers would probably just take care of all the chickens and ducks themselves:-)
ReplyDeleteCould you get a "cat" trap from the local animal control area? We caught lots of cats and a couple of smaller dogs in the one we borrowed. Of course wiley like a fox comes into play and it might be too smart for a trap.
ReplyDeleteWe tried trapping him last year with live chicken for bait and it was a no go but he would walk past it once he'd caught another chiken or duck.
ReplyDeleteCan you coop up the poultry at night?
ReplyDeleteWe do they are being taken during the day! GRRRRR
ReplyDeleteSo sorry! That is very frustrating....The fox may be beautiful, but he's definitely crossing the line! We have them here in crowded suburbia as well, and they ruin many of my off leash walks as it is the one thing I can't call the dogs off of. Foxes drive them insane!
ReplyDeleteYes it is!:-)) I love foxes and it breaks my heart to want to destroy him! The state of FL will not allow us to trap and relocate him, it is illegal. We are surrounded by lots of state park/forest, I wish he would just go back in there, alas it is just not that simple... My dogs are pretty crazy for them too, I can always tell when he's been around cuz they go crazy following the trail.
